Maha Mrutyunjaya Mantra

ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम्। उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान्मृत्योर्मुक्षीय माऽमृतात्॥

Om Tryambakaṃ Yajāmahe Sugandhiṃ Puṣṭivardhanam

Urvārukamiva Bandhanān Mṛtyormukṣīya Māmṛtāt

Meaning and Translation

Om: The sacred primordial sound of the universe.

Tryambakam: The three-eyed one (referring to Lord Shiva, representing the eyes of creation, preservation, and destruction, as well as inner spiritual vision).

Yajāmahe: We worship, adore, or invoke.

Sugandhim: Fragrant, or the sweet fragrance of spiritual fulfillment, virtue, and goodness.

Pushtivardhanam: The nourisher of all, who strengthens, sustains, and promotes health, growth, and spiritual vitality.

Urvārukam iva: Like a cucumber (or melon) detached effortlessly from its vine.

Bandhanān: From the bonds or constraints (of attachment, worldly existence, and mortal limitation).

Mrityor Mukshiya: Liberate us from death and the cycle of rebirth.

Ma Amritat: Do not withhold immortality (grant realization of the eternal, deathless soul/liberation).
